Sonic Youth's 3rd album released on cassette! Sonic Youth's 3rd album, originally released in 1986 by SST Records, is now available on cassette!
This album marks the transition from their early no-wave style to a more expansive alternative rock sound. Current drummer Steve Shelley joined the band for this album.
While retaining their signature experimental, formless, and dissonant noise guitar, supported by Steve's drumming, the band also develops a more pop-oriented sound. Lydia Lunch participates in lyric writing for one track, as on the previous album.
Pitchfork ranked this album 31st on their "Top 100 Albums of the 1980s" list, describing it as "EVOL is the album that truly marked Sonic Youth's musical evolution."
