A soundtrack collection featuring songs composed by Motoo Fujiwara of BUMP OF CHICKEN for Namco's RPG 'TALES OF THE ABYSS' as background music.
In December 2005, BUMP OF CHICKEN's 'Karma' was released as the theme song for Namco's RPG 'TALES OF THE ABYSS'. Its groove and message resonated perfectly with the story developed in the game, striking a chord not only with existing fans but also with many game and animation fans.
This gem of a collaboration, realized through a passionate theme song writing offer from the game development side, went beyond just creating a theme song. It expanded into composing major background music (BGM) within the game, reaching a previously unseen level for a musician.
"To engage more deeply with the game, I want to create not only the theme song but also the BGMs that color and produce the world view," said Fujiwara, driven by his deep love for RPGs, which led to this new project.
While reviewing the details of scenes, storylines, and animation developments, Fujiwara, as a composer, skillfully composed and arranged the BGMs to match the scenes, demonstrating his talent. He consistently exceeded the expectations of the game production team, delivering music of higher quality and persuasiveness.
Finally, this unprecedented collaboration culminates in a release that includes a re-recorded live string quartet version of the BGMs as a bonus track, along with the theme song 'Karma'.
The jacket features a booklet with full commentary by Motoo Fujiwara on all songs. The photos inside the booklet were taken by photographer Katsuo Hanzawa at the actual studio where the BGMs were recorded, designed as solemn monochrome solo shots.
This CD is, literally, a collection of works by composer Motoo Fujiwara.
