Soken-sha Organic Green Tea is made from 100% tea leaves carefully cultivated organically by Kitamura Tea in Saza Town, North Matsuura District, Nagasaki Prefecture. It has a smooth, easy-to-drink flavor with a refreshing taste. The water used is sourced from the source of the Echizen mountain range.

Kitamura Tea has dedicated many years to cultivating tea leaves and manufacturing tea. They have developed and employed unique techniques, such as using vinegar, to produce organically grown tea leaves, earning numerous awards for their achievements. The passion for organic cultivation at Kitamura Tea is also reflected in this green tea. It features a mild umami and a deep aroma characteristic of organic cultivation.

◆ Kitamura Tea's Tea Garden Development and Organic Cultivation

In 1957 (Showa 32), founder Chinya Kitamura, with a big dream of creating a tea garden on a steep, rocky, mixed forested land at an altitude of 360 meters on the mountain summit, began developing the tea garden and cultivating tea leaves. He built a small factory himself to produce tea. Then, in 1969 (Showa 44), responding to customer requests to cultivate tea organically, they started efforts to grow tea without pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

◆ The Challenges of Organic Tea Leaf Cultivation

Initially, during the first few years, organic tea cultivation was plagued by pests and diseases, and the harvest yield was reduced to one-third of the previous amount. The family worked together, trial and error, to improve organic cultivation, and finally, in 1975 (Showa 50), they achieved a breakthrough. Because Kitamura Tea's fields are located on mountain tops, pesticides used in other tea gardens do not drift over. We do not use herbicides for weed control, even on roadside weeds, and manually weed. To strengthen the tea plants, compost, oil cake, and wood vinegar are used to improve soil quality, and vinegar, brown sugar, and garlic are used to prevent diseases and pests.

This product uses 100% organically cultivated tea leaves, carefully nurtured over more than 50 years since the land was first developed as a farming pioneer. The founder, Mr. Kitamura, has been dedicated to tea cultivation and manufacturing for over 60 years. Since more than 50 years ago, he has employed his own techniques, such as using vinegar, to produce organic tea, earning many awards for his achievements.
