■ Details
This currency was issued from 1922 (Taisho 11) due to revisions in the Currency Act.
Affected by the post-World War I recession and in line with the slump in international commodity prices, the soaring silver price began to stabilize in the Taisho 10s. Consequently, the weight of silver coins was further reduced in this revision.
The design of the silver coins established at this time was adopted, with slight modifications to the obverse design (characters still in clerical script), except for the Yatagarasu on the reverse of the Yatagarasu silver coin and the Roman alphabet notation.
It was manufactured for many years until 1938 (Showa 13) and was affectionately nicknamed "Giza" (reeded) during its circulation, becoming one of the coins that was thoroughly familiar to the Japanese people of that era.
