This is a tool for offering sake to the gods. It has a shape like a tokkuri (sake flask) with a lid. The lid is removed when offering during special events.
Offerings are made on the 1st and 15th of each month, as well as during New Year and festivals.
Sake, which is considered "sacred plant-based food" in Shinto, is best made from rice, such as Japanese sake. It is displayed in pairs at the front of the Kamidana, towards the back center. There are plain types without characters and types with gold characters "Goshizen".
