Are diving pencils and poppers the only effective topwater lures for SW big game? Can these lures overcome all situations? These questions prompted the development of the Screw Drive 180F / 180F FLASH HBOOST. The goal was to create a third appeal performance that cannot be achieved by diving pencils or poppers. The concept for the Screw Drive 180F / 180F FLASH HBOOST was inspired by prop baits designed for targeting large freshwater species like muskies and pikes. By rotating the prop, water flow and sound are generated to attract fish from a wide area, and this prop bait was thoroughly built into a SW-specific design. The Screw Drive 180F / 180F FLASH HBOOST has been elevated to a dedicated SW big game lure.

The Screw Drive 180F / 180F FLASH HBOOST is a lure with the basic concept that the prop attached at the rear of the body grabs water and rotates to generate bubbles and sound. It maintains a stable action with a "popping" sound when retrieved steadily. It can also produce a "gobbo" sound with short jerks, mimicking popping action. Additionally, because the weight is located at the rear of the body and the prop is always submerged, it is less prone to misaction even in rough water. Even in surface conditions where poppers or diving pencils might roll over, it persistently remains on the surface and continues its action. Even in situations with high expectations for big fish but difficult lure operation, the Screw Drive 180F / 180F FLASH HBOOST offers chances for bites.

Uses two types of normal large prop fins for versatile actions.

The prop fins included are two types: normal and large, which can be easily exchanged. The standard is the normal size, suitable for high-speed actions such as non-stop jerks with rapid winding, effective for species like yellowtail amberjack. The large size offers greater appeal than the normal, suitable for slow retrieves, slow-paced short jerks, or situations where broad and vigorous action is desired, such as targeting tuna or GT, with a popping action that minimizes movement distance.

The body is divided into two parts, with a structure where a prop mounted on a wire rotates around the axis. The Screw Drive 180F / 180F FLASH HBOOST clears both key elements required for SW big game: casting distance and strength, at a high level. Initially, resistance from the prop caused deceleration during casting and wobbling of the lure. However, through thorough testing of body shape and weight balance, we achieved a casting distance that does not cause stress to the angler, comparable to diving pencils. The wire passing through the prop part also ensures strength, meeting Shimano's proprietary standards for offshore casting.
