Big baits can sometimes have a tremendous effect due to their appeal, but a disadvantage arising from their structure is the issue of cast accuracy. Specifically, the lure tends to spin, reducing precision when targeting pinpoint spots, and affecting casting distance. To address this, Shimano developed a unique mechanism called Arma Boost. It allows for accurate casts near bridge piers and long-distance throws in open areas.

Effects brought by Arma Boost

The secret to the increased casting distance and Arma Boost lies in the structure of the joint part. One feature is that during casting, the body folds into a round shape, reducing wind resistance. This makes it harder to spin, improving both distance and accuracy. We designed it to be effective in a wide range of situations, from targeting structures near bridge piers to points requiring long-distance casting.

Small lock to prevent line tangles

To reduce line hook tangles, the position of the hook eye was carefully adjusted and repeatedly tested. This resulted in an optimal hook eye position. Additionally, Shimano's original Petit Lock mechanism is installed. This mechanism, also used in NESSA's 'Metal Drive,' allows the hook eye to be semi-fixed to the body. Normally, the body folding increases the likelihood of line tangles, but this feature helps improve casting distance and makes line tangles less likely, enhancing ease of use.

Magnetic force and semi-fixed idea

While folding the body dramatically improved casting distance, achieving both this and natural action was very challenging. During testing, the Arma Boost's joint had a wide range of motion, which caused water resistance and unnatural movements. To solve this, the idea of using magnets was employed. The plate used in the joint is designed so that a built-in magnet causes semi-fixation when the lure swims. This stabilizes the joint's movement and allows for natural, smooth action. It supports both fast and slow retrieves. During casting, the magnet lock is released, ensuring the lure folds properly and maintains stable distance. This idea of semi-fixation with magnets enables the lure to move alluringly without sacrificing distance.

The Exsence Arma Joint is set to a floating type with a size of 190mm. The reason is to target the surface layer where sea bass are easily fooled. It is designed as a floating type to appeal in this bite zone, allowing slow retrieval while utilizing the wave motion. The 190mm size matches large baitfish like konoshiro and falling sweetfish, making it effective for targeting lunker-sized sea bass due to its presence.
