Shimabara Somen is a specialty somen from Minamishimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture. It is characterized by its firm texture that is resistant to breaking even when boiled, created by using Shimabara water, selected as one of Japan's top 100 famous waters, and high-quality domestic strong flour, with repeated manual "aging" and "stretching." Skilled artisans assess the state of the raw flour and age the dough under strict temperature control for 24-36 hours. You can enjoy the firm texture developed through aging, the rich wheat flavor, and the smooth mouthfeel. It is also served at a restaurant that received two stars in the 2023 Tokyo edition of a global gourmet guide. The product is delivered with wrapping paper over the decorative box and a noshi (gift tag) on top. It can be used for various purposes such as Ochuugen (mid-year gift), Oseibo (year-end gift), and Oseinen (New Year's gift). In addition to regular chilled somen, it can be arranged in various dishes such as nyumen (hot somen soup) using warm broth, and champloo (stir-fried dish) mixed with stir-fried ingredients.
Boiling time: Boil in plenty of boiling water for about 3.5 minutes, or to your preference, then rinse in cold water and serve.
