**Asayama Ichiden-ryu Heiho** was founded by the martial artist Asayama Ichidensai Shigeaki during the Tensho and Keicho eras. During the Edo period, it became a major school boasting 7,000 disciples.
Its characteristics strongly retain the elements of Katchu Heiho (armored swordsmanship), with stances and footwork derived from the battlefield and techniques based on the assumption of facing an opponent wearing armor. Furthermore, the school is famous for being adopted by the police during the Meiji era. Today, various martial arts such as Ken (sword), Bo (staff), Jo (short staff), Iai (quick-draw), Kama (sickle), and Taijutsu (body arts) continue to be passed down.
In this DVD, the 22nd Soke (Grandmaster), Nobuhide Seki, carefully explains these practical principles. He provides clear explanations for the meanings and reasons behind classical martial arts that are difficult to understand by observation alone, such as:* **[Suri (Sliding) and Maki (Winding)]**: Maximizing the use of the weapon's shape.* **[Nisun Gofun no Kage (The Shadow of 2.5 Inches)]**: Performing defense and attack simultaneously.* **[Principles of Combat]**: Delving into the psychological warfare with the opponent.
Furthermore, Soke Seki is not only a master of classical martial arts but also a highly skilled practitioner who has won the All Japan Iaido Championship and the All Japan Jodo Championship multiple times and holds a 5th Dan in Kendo. Consequently, not only the principles but also the various techniques are presented with great persuasiveness, making this content an excellent reference for all practitioners studying and exploring martial arts.
