This is the final volume of "Seishi Yokomizo Boys' Mystery Collection," a compilation of Seishi Yokomizo's mystery novels for young readers in their original texts, spanning all 7 volumes. This volume collects non-series works from before and after World War II.
"The Prisoner Tower of the South Seas," an adventure story filled with mystery and the uncanny, set on a remote island in the sea, was published in 1931 (Showa 6). However, due to the loss of the magazine it was published in, it had never been published before and was considered a phantom work. This marks its first book publication in 90 years.
Also included are two full-length novels: "The Sun Child of the South Seas," a unique legendary maritime adventure story that strongly reflects the tense international situation on the eve of the Pacific War, and "The Boy Detective Chief," which Seishi Yokomizo completed by continuing the work after the sudden death of Juon Umino. Additionally, there are four short stories: "The Secret of Black Rose Manor," "The Mysterious 50-Sen Silver Coin," "The Devil's Image," and "The Unopened Room," all masterpieces that showcase his skill as a storyteller.
The volume concludes with a valuable roundtable discussion, "Recollections of Seishi Yokomizo," featuring his wife, Takako Yokomizo, his eldest son, Ryoichi Yokomizo, and mystery writer Masao Yamamura. It also includes "Yokomizo Q&A" by the editor of this collection, Mizuzo Kusaka, making it a fulfilling final volume of the series with abundant supplementary materials!
