[History of Satsuma Kiriko]
Cut glass, which arrived in Nagasaki during the mid-Edo period, first began to be produced in Osaka and eventually spread to Edo, blossoming into Japan's unique cut glass, "Edo Kiriko." In the late Edo period, influenced by "Edo Kiriko," "Satsuma Kiriko" was created in Satsuma, a region where Southern European culture flourished. This involved cutting glass made by overlaying colored glass. "Satsuma Kiriko," backed by the unique sensibilities of the Japanese people, boasted world-class skill and beauty. However, amidst the turmoil of the Bakumatsu period, all workshops were abolished, and it was tragically discontinued after a short existence. Forgotten for over a century, "Satsuma Kiriko" was revived and re-established in Osaka at the end of the 20th century, its beautiful form magnificently restored.

Tomi Takahashi, one of the individuals involved in the revival of the extinct "Satsuma Kiriko" in Osaka, has continued to create and nurture a new trend in *kiriko* glass in Osaka, utilizing his high level of skill, as "Takumi Kiriko." The sharp edges and brilliance, achieved through unique cutting techniques and a commitment to "hand polishing," are the essence of "Takumi Kiriko." "Takumi Kiriko" is beautiful and original cut glass, rich in creativity and supported by solid craftsmanship, built upon the tradition of "Satsuma Kiriko."
