Salvatore Ferragamo was an Italian fashion designer. He studied anatomy at the University of Southern California in America, learned techniques for making shoes that do not hurt the feet, and obtained numerous patents related to shoemaking. He has a strong commitment as a shoemaker, believes in comfortable shoes, and is said to be able to tell a person's health just by touching their feet.

In America, he gained fame as the 'shoemaker to the stars,' with Hollywood stars as clients. His clients included Hollywood actresses Ingrid Bergman, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn.

In 1927, he returned to Italy and opened Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence. After the Great Depression, he went bankrupt once in 1933 but recovered by gaining clients among royalty, aristocrats, and celebrities. In 1960, Salvatore Ferragamo passed away.

After his death, the brand Ferragamo was inherited by his wife Wanda and children. In 1967, led by his second daughter Giovanna, they started ready-to-wear for women and men. Today, it has become a global total fashion brand including bags, wallets, perfumes, and more.
