BBUGS / GREEN KNITTED SCARF / DIRTY CASTANETS (TAPE)

The debut release from Tokyo's emerging indie rock band, Bbugs, is now available on cassette tape!
Formed in Tokyo in March 2024, Bbugs is an indie rock band consisting of:

- Rio (Vo/Gt | Modern Jazz War)
- Lou (Vo | Loulalee)
- Yuji Soga (Gt | Tyrell)
- Takahiro Hirano (Ba)
- Juon Tahara (Dr | Daisy Jaine, wooz)

Their first live performance was at the Australian garage pop band Parsnip’s Japan tour on May 18 of the same year.
In June, they appeared at the Japan tour of Jae Yeon Hwang, frontman of AKUA, with summercomesagain, and at Jack Ip’s Japan party for Arches, among others.
Already gaining attention in Tokyo’s indie scene, they are eagerly releasing their first physical recording!

The sound on this tape features influences from US indie/alternative rock of the 1980s-2000s, the sweet melodies of original shoegaze bands, dark textures of post-punk, jangly indie pop, and the DIY spirit of punk rock—creating a diverse indie sound of the 2020s that immediately conveys a variety of influences.

The tracks included on the cassette, released by Miles Apart Records, were recorded, mixed, and mastered by Kensei Ogata.

The release features two songs:
- **Green Knitted Scarf (Lies on the Floor)**: A perfect balance of post-hardcore-inspired guitar sound with a driving rhythm and pop melodies, overflowing with a sense of urgency.
- **Dirty Castanets**: Contains noisy, drive-driven guitars with male and female twin vocals, harmonizing to create a sweetly catchy, bittersweet tune.

The artwork for this release was created by Kaho Nagao, who has been involved in art direction and design since Bbugs’ early days, further enhancing the band’s visual world.

This is a debut from a promising new band whose future activities are worth watching!

Bbugs, with a philosophy rooted in Détournement, advocates a DIY spirit as an aesthetic. They respect and love a wide range of guitar music from the 80s and 90s, and aim to reconstruct the romance, raw ensemble, instability, and critical spirit of that era’s music through a modern filter. They express themselves not only through music but also through various arts, philosophy, and subcultures.
Formed in 2024 by Rio, Lou, Yuji Soga, Takahiro Hirano, and Juon Tahara.
Based in Tokyo.
