| Yves Saint Laurent is a fashion designer from French Algeria, or a fashion brand named after him. It has become a globally renowned brand in France. Along with Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Paul Poiret, he led the fashion industry in the 20th century. Until his retirement in 2002, he was active as a top designer for 40 years and was called the "Emperor of Mode." He also expanded into cosmetics with the affiliated "Yves Saint Laurent Beauté." Yves Saint Laurent is especially famous for the 1966 Smoking Tuxedo. It was an adaptation of men's tuxedos, creating a women's suit. In the 1970s, he announced designs inspired by Cossack looks and folkloric styles, earning the reputation as the "Emperor of Mode."
