**Story**
Himura Kenshin, a man who left behind the legend of "the strongest" in the turbulent Bakumatsu era. Once feared as the "Hitokiri Battōsai," he now lives peaceful days with his cherished companions, including Kamiya Kaoru, in the new era.
At this time, Kenshin is asked by the new government to defeat Shishio Makoto, who served as the "dark hitokiri" and Kenshin's successor. Betrayed and burned alive by the new government, Shishio miraculously revives, forms a combat group in Kyoto, and aims to conquer Japan.
Kenshin bids farewell to Kaoru, who desperately tries to stop him, saying "Thank you for everything," and heads to Kyoto. Shishio, once Kenshin's equal in swordsmanship and intellect, now possesses a terrifying ferocity that everyone fears. Kenshin finally confronts his fated enemy, Shishio.
However, Shishio orders his subordinate, Seta Sōjirō, to fight Kenshin. With Sōjirō's fastest technique, Kenshin's reverse-bladed sword is snapped in two! Furthermore, Kenshin learns that he has enemies other than Shishio's faction. It is Shinomori Aoshi, a former御庭番衆 (Oniwabanshū), who seeks to prove himself the strongest by defeating Kenshin.
Having lost his reverse-bladed sword, can Kenshin defeat numerous enemies without breaking his vow of "never to kill"? As Kenshin faces his greatest crisis, Kaoru and his friends rush to his side. But in the shadow of the great Kyoto fire planned by Shishio, a more terrifying conspiracy was hidden!
