『メイン・ストリートのならず者』のセッション音源を、時系列にまとめたコンピレーションで、1969年から1972年のアルバム発表に至るレコーディング・ドキュメント。注目は1971年フランス・ネルコートでのセッション音源の6曲が初登場。2010年オフィシャル・リイシューにも含まれなかった貴重な発掘音源で、さらにこれまで流通してきたセッション音源も、過去最長、ベスト・クオリティーにて年代順に新たにリマスターされたマスト・コレクターズ・エディション。2010年オフィシャル・リイシューでボックス・セットも登場し新曲シングルもリリースされ話題となった1年後、これまで未発表のセッション音源が新たに発掘されここに陽の目を。まずニッキー・ホプキンス・アーカイブとして発掘されたこれらの音源は、1971年あのフランス・ネルコートでのセッションからのもので、「ロックス・オフ」「オール・ダウン・ザ・ライン」「リップ・ディス・ジョイント」等はバッキング・トラックを中心にしたラフ・ミックス。さらに未完成のインストゥルメンタルもあり、いずれもリイシュー・ボックスにも未収録のセッション音源6曲が初登場。またこれまでの関連音源は、本格的なアルバム制作のため、ネルコートで集中的に行われたセッション以外にも、古くは1969年からの未発表曲やデモ音源等も含まれており、今回そのレコーディング・データを元に、それらの音源も年代順に収録しアルバム完成に至るまでの足跡を辿るドキュメント記録として再現。さらに過去にバラバラに出回っていた音源や編集カット、音質劣化していた音源等も、新たにロー・ジェネレーション・マスターに修復作業を施したデジタル・リマスタリングによるベスト音源を収録。同アルバム関連音源はこのコンピレーションでほぼ完全網羅されたと云え、未発表のアルバム・テーマ曲「エグザイル・オン・メインストリート・ブルース」をイントロとエンディングにはさみ、未発表アウトテイクやセッション音源、さらにはモノ・シングルやプロモ・ミックスに至るまで、数多く出回っていたセッション音源をカンペキにコンパイルした永久保存。
