The new series of Schumann's complete symphonic and orchestral works by the Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra, released by the Audite label, is now available.
Conducted by the world-renowned oboist Heinz Holliger. He has pioneered new and difficult oboe techniques and performed numerous masterpieces from Baroque to contemporary works. After venturing into conducting in the 1980s, conducting became his main focus, and he now performs a wide repertoire as a conductor. The prestigious Cologne WDR Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra affiliated with a broadcasting station based in Cologne, Germany, and the maestro Holliger present a sincere performance of Schumann.
The Symphony in D minor (1841 original version) was initially titled "Symphonic Fantasia" and was the second work as a symphony. However, due to poor reception, the brass parts were revised ten years later and published as Symphony No. 4 Op. 120. We are delighted to be able to hear the original version with a high-level performance on the Audite label, known for its excellent recordings.
