レギュレーターの役割として、電気を整流する機能と、電圧を一定に制御する機能があります。
熱に弱い部品ですので、放熱するためフィンで冷却させています。
風の当たらない場所に設置すると、放熱できずに熱が溜まり劣化して壊れてしまうことがあります。
壊れると電圧制御ができなくなり未充電・電圧過上昇等の不具合が発生します。
正常な充電ができなくなる、ヘッドライトバルブが切れやすくなる、
バッテリーが短期間で劣化し頻繁に上がる、開放型バッテリーの場合にはセルモーターが故障したり異臭がする、
正常なバッテリーの寿命が尽きるという症状が出ましたらレギュレーターの故障の疑いがあります。
耐久性のある純正品でも、発熱を繰り返しているうちに少しずつ劣化していき壊れてしまいます。
予兆無く突然壊れてしまう場合もありますので、補修部品としてストックしておけばいざという時安心です。
