Benifuuki is a Japanese native super botanical tea that contains a high amount of methylated catechins, which are not found in typical green teas.
◆ What is Benifuuki (紅富貴)?
It is a tea leaf variety developed in Japan. It was cultivated at the Vegetable Tea Industry Research Institute, named in 1993, and registered as a tea variety for black and oolong teas in 1995.
◆ What are methylated catechins?
Methylated catechins are a type of polyphenol contained within tea leaves. They are formed when a portion of the catechin called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is most abundant in common tea leaves, undergoes methylation. This compound is found in high levels in varieties such as Benifuuki, Benifuji, and Benihomare.
A major characteristic of methylated catechins is that they dissolve easily at high temperatures and act when dissolved in water. To efficiently intake methylated catechins, it is recommended to brew Benifuuki tea with boiling water thoroughly before drinking.
For intake, using 3.8 grams of tea leaves with 1.5% methylated catechin content, boiling in over 400 ml of water and extracting for at least 5 minutes is effective.
This is a daily recommended amount, but we suggest referring to this guideline when consuming Benifuuki tea.
◆ How to make delicious and effective KanGen-kun Benifuuki Tea
1. Place one tea bag into 500cc of water in a kettle or pot.
2. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes. After slightly cooling, add 400cc of water.
3. When the temperature reaches about 35–45°C or roughly skin temperature, pour into KanGen-kun and cover with a lid.
4. Let it sit for approximately 12 hours to complete the KanGen-benifuuki tea. Store in a PET bottle or similar container.
5. Enjoy the hydrogen-infused Benifuuki tea.
