About the artists

Tsuji Takeshi, Cello
A representative cellist of Japan in both name and reality. Studied under Hideyo Saito, then in 1961 studied abroad at Indiana University in the United States, under Janos Starker. Awarded 2nd place at the Munich International Competition and 1st place at the Casals International Competition in 1963. To this day, he is regularly invited to perform in Japan, North America, Europe, Australia, and Central and South America. Awarded the Purple Ribbon Medal in fall 2009. Selected as a Person of Cultural Merit in 2013.
He has released numerous CDs, including a 60th anniversary performance album "Encore" in 2010, and a highly acclaimed "Dvořák: Cello Concerto" in 2016 (both from Meister Music). Since 2001, he has been the music director of the Kirishima International Music Festival. Served as a professor at Indiana University from 1988 to 2006, and as president of Toho Gakuen School of Music from 2004 to 2013. Appointed director of Suntory Hall in September 2007. Member of the Japan Art Academy.

Mami Hagiwara, Piano
Won the 65th Geneva International Competition (Piano Division) in 2010, the first Japanese to do so. It was her first victory in 8 years at this prestigious competition, which does not always award 1st place each year. Born in Hiroshima Prefecture. At age 13, she became the youngest ever to win 1st place at the 27th Parma d'Oro International Competition. After graduating from Hiroshima Music High School, she studied in France as a dispatch artist for the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Graduated from the Paris Conservatory of Music and its master's program, the chamber music department of the Paris Regional Music Academy, and the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.
She performs as a soloist and chamber musician mainly in Japan and France, as well as in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Vietnam, and other countries. She has performed with major orchestras such as the Swiss Romande Orchestra and Südwestrundfunk Symphony Orchestra, and has been invited to various music festivals including La Roche-aux-Dents in France.
She has appeared on numerous TV and radio programs such as "Concert without a Title," "Lalala Classic," "Classical Club," and "Famous Music Album."
