Product Description
Simply lay this over your tatami room to refresh it. Use it to refresh sun-faded tatami or as a cover to protect new tatami from getting dirty. Uses domestic (Kyushu-produced) igusa approximately 110-115 cm in length. Approximately 88 cm of this length is used. The edges will have a somewhat whitish appearance. (This is not due to sun fading, but is the color of the root and tip of the igusa.) Longer igusa is of higher quality. Igusa is reddish-brown at the tip, white at the root, and blue (green) in the middle. The more of the good quality blue part in the middle that is used, the sturdier and more beautiful the finish will be. Also, as igusa fades with use, the part with more blue in the middle will fade evenly and beautifully, developing a unique character. This product is finished with Itohiki-ori (a weaving method), the same as tatami facing. Compared to Sumihiki-ori, it is sturdier due to the higher number of igusa strands woven in. Its smooth surface makes it difficult for dust to accumulate. Itohiki-ori is recommended for those who want to use it for a long time or require durability. Uses domestic (Kyushu-produced) igusa. Each strand of domestic igusa is thick, with a thick epidermis and fine fibers, giving it elasticity and excellent durability. Igusa has air purifying and humidity regulating properties, and is resistant to dirt. The igusa has been treated with Aomori Hiba. (Antibacterial and deodorizing effects.) Both sides can be used, making it economical.
