This is a tatami mat cover made from 100% organically grown, reduced-pesticide igusa from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture.Features:1. Compared to regular igusa, it has superior durability and elasticity, and the characteristic green color of igusa lasts longer.2. Even when faded by sun exposure, it changes to a beautiful amber color.3. It has the ability to absorb nitrogen dioxide, which is a cause of air pollution, and also works excellently to regulate room humidity.
Simply laying this cover over your tatami mats will refresh the room. Use it to refresh sun-faded tatami or as a cover to protect new tatami from getting dirty.We use domestic igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture, a renowned igusa producing region) of JAS Class 1 (top class tatami material) with a length of 130 cm or more, which is typically used for tatami surfaces.The carefully selected, high-quality, thick, and long igusa is woven at high density, making it durable, long-lasting, and providing a comfortable volume against the skin. Approximately 88 cm of the 130 cm length is used. This is a high-quality product that uses long igusa, resulting in less white at the edges. (The white parts are not from sun exposure; they are the colors of the root and tip of the igusa.)Longer igusa is considered more valuable. Igusa has a reddish-brown tip, a white root, and a green middle section. Using more of the high-quality green middle section results in a stronger and more beautiful finish. Furthermore, as igusa ages and fades from sun exposure, products using more of the green middle section will fade evenly and beautifully, developing a unique character.This product is finished with the Itohiki-ori weave, the same as tatami surfaces. Compared to Somoku-ori, it is more durable due to the higher density of woven igusa. Its smooth surface makes it difficult for dust to accumulate. We recommend Itohiki-ori for those who want to use it for a long time or require durability.We use domestic igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture). Domestic igusa is thick, has a dense fiber structure with a thick outer layer, providing elasticity and excellent durability. Igusa has functions such as air purification and humidity control, and is resistant to dirt.The fabric surface has been treated with "Hiba essence," extracted from Hiba trees in Aomori Prefecture, using the manufacturer's unique technology. Hiba essence contains hinokitiol, a substance with extremely high antibacterial properties for a natural compound.
