How to use Shinden
A long jig characterized by its light feel and irregular darting action.
A common method of use is the so-called "Hirado Jerk."
This jerk is effective when casting the jig and pulling it diagonally.
Tuck the rod under your arm, pointing downwards (with the reel handle also pointing down), synchronize the rod's lift with the reel's handle turn,
turn the reel handle 1/2 to 2/3 times (imagine flicking the jig up),
and quickly return the rod to its original position while also returning the handle.
Move to the next jerk before the jig falls and the rod tip feels the weight.
*Because Shinden is asymmetrical,
the jerk will also become heavier or lighter with a one-pitch retrieve,
but please understand this as a characteristic of its irregular darting action.
A two-pitch Hirado Jerk is also effective. (This is my personal favorite pattern.)
It seems easier to change the rod's sweep than to vary the reeling speed.
People often talk about the jerk width and pitch,
but I believe it is more important to give the jig initial speed and make it dart.
A point to note is that with a stiffer rod and overly vigorous jerking,
trouble may occur where the leader wraps around the head of the jig.
Please try to resolve this by moderating your jerks.
(This trouble occurs because the jig overtakes the leader.)
