A sinking pencil for luring and targeting surface-feeding frenzies.
This sinking pencil is not designed for "letting it be" during surface-feeding frenzies, but is a completely new type of sinking pencil that is meant to be worked (retrieved).
The basic action is a steady retrieve. A slight rod jerk to create a flashing action is also effective.
When targeting bait balls, try retrieving just below the surface to about 1 meter deep, skimming along the edges of the bait ball.
If birds are heavily concentrated on the bait ball and you cannot retrieve along the edge, cast just short of the bait ball and let it sink for a few seconds. During this time, keep the line as free as possible.
This sinking pencil has a slight backslide, allowing it to enter the bait ball slightly, increasing your chances.
For fast-moving surface-feeding frenzies, cast between the frenzies and retrieve at a speed that does not cause it to jump out of the water (luring and sinking).
Regarding shirasu (whitebait) frenzies, which have been a challenge for tuna fishing in recent years, this sinking pencil can be used to target them.
Cast into the shirasu frenzy and retrieve at the fastest possible speed that keeps it just below the surface without jumping out.
The key is a steady retrieve at the very edge of whether it will jump or not. Please give it a try.
In addition to tuna, this lure can be used for various other species such as yellowtail, greater amberjack, bonito, and mahi-mahi.
It is highly recommended for mahi-mahi if you can master the use of jerking.
