フコイダンは、1913年にスウェーデンの科学者Ｈ.Ｚ.キリンによって発見されています。以来多くの学者たちによって研究され、構造や生理活性に関しての論文も多数発表されています。そのように多くの学者たちが研究対象としているフコイダンを、酵素などの働きにより低分子化したものが「低分子化フコイダン」です。
2003年からは、この低分子化フコイダンを取り入れた統合医療が実施されています。低分子化フコイダンを飲用した患者８２人(うち末期がん患者４７人)の約８０％に容態の改善がみられたとのことです。数あるサプリメントの中でも80%という数値はかなり有効性が高いといえるでしょう。
低分子化フコイダンは がん細胞にだけ 働きかけます。
(1)アポトーシス誘導作用[ ＊アポトーシス＝細胞が「自ら選んで自滅していく」こと]
