【Movie Overview】
Billions of dollars in the "poverty industry" have been created by for-profit developers of developing countries and large NGOs, and in this context, developed countries have gained a position as leaders in developing countries. The business of charity has never developed so much in history. However, an increasing number of leaders in developing countries are raising their voices against promotional efforts that instill in people in developed countries the image of "We must do something about these pitiable people" and "They are helpless and can do nothing," and aid methods that undermine the self-sufficiency of recipients through unilateral imposition. This film, "Poverty, Inc. The Uncomfortable Truth About Your Charity" (Original Title: POVERTY, INC.), questions the way we provide aid by examining examples such as Toms Shoes, which donates a pair of shoes to a developing country for every pair purchased, solar panel venture companies originating in developing countries, international adoption, and US agricultural subsidies. Interviews with over 200 people in 20 countries reveal the "uncomfortable truth about charity" that can no longer be ignored.

【Production Background】
The film "Poverty, Inc." originated from the "PovertyCure" project, which began in 2007 and was officially established in 2011, aiming to foster international collaboration among people working to reduce poverty. With the motto that unleashing individual creativity leads to human prosperity, the project spent several years conducting research and filming over 200 interviews in 20 countries. In addition, a community was built on a Facebook page with over 1.2 million fans in 144 countries and over 350 partner organizations.
