本作は、2006年にニンテンドーDSソフトとして発売した『ポケットモンスター パール』のリメイク作です。原作に登場したポケモンたちが登場し、ストーリーも忠実に再現されている他、さまざまな遊びがNintendo Switchで蘇ります。
舞台は、多くの神話が語られる緑豊かな「シンオウ地方」。主人公は、最初のパートナーとなるポケモンを「ナエトル」「ヒコザル」「ポッチャマ」の中から1匹選び、冒険の旅に出かけます。その先々で、この地方に生息するポケモンと出会い、バトルし、捕まえながら成長し、ポケモンリーグのチャンピオンを目指します。
