This book provides a comprehensive examination of "Kaifuso" in three parts.
In Chapter 1, "Development of Japanese Chinese Poetry as Seen from Unattested Words in 'Kaifuso'," of Part 1, "Regarding Poetic Language," we classified words with no prior or contemporary examples in Chinese literature, defined as "unattested words," and organized and summarized issues related to poetic language. Chapter 2, "The Reality of Poetry Composition - From the Use of 'Yusenkutsu' and 'Senjimon' -," using "Yusenkutsu" and "Senjimon" as examples, clarified the necessity of examining a wide range of materials to understand the reality of poetry composition in "Kaifuso."
In Part 2, "Regarding Biographies," we examined the content of "Kaifuso" and considered the significance (editorial intent) of the existence of biographies in its structure when "Kaifuso" is viewed as a collection. Currently, the most significant issue in "Kaifuso" research is the insufficient study of its prose sections, despite annotations and examinations of the collected poems. While some source research has been accumulated for the poems, albeit with some biases in the survey targets, the sources of vocabulary and expressions in the prose sections have not been thoroughly scrutinized.
