■Additional Product Information■"Gekkan Playboy" (Monthly Playboy) was a magazine that previously translated and re-edited the American adult magazine "Playboy" for the Japanese market.
It is also known as the PLAYBOY Japan Edition.
Shueisha launched it in May 1975 as the "July issue."
The publisher was Masashi Wakanashi, and the editor was Tamotsu Okada.
It also featured substantial reading material, including non-fiction by Norman Mailer and novels by John Collier.
It directly imported and published nude photos of "Playmates," exclusive models of "Playboy."
Even before the lifting of the ban on hair nudity in Japan (around 1990), it continued to publish nude photos, albeit with some processing and editing.
Apart from the gravure sections, the Japanese edition had strong original content, including novels, columns, and interview articles.
Kazuhiko Torishima, who joined Shueisha aiming to become an editor for this magazine, stated, "The content, including the promotional strategy, was very interesting."
