Recorded at Sidney Enterprises in Milwaukee during 1973–74, Penny Goodwin's jazz singer masterpiece "Portrait of a Gemini." Due to being a private label, only 2,000 copies were pressed at the time, making it an ultra-rare item among collectors and a legendary piece. Among these, the cover of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On," which features a lively swing intro that quickly develops into a groovy and funky, mellow arrangement, is especially popular. Other highlights include a cover of Gil Scott-Heron's "Lady Day & John Coltrane," which overflows with a sense of urgency and energy, and "Today Is the First Day," with its mellow sound of electric piano and strings. The album features luxurious personnel such as Richard Evans, Phil Upchurch, and Morris Jennings, blending soul, jazz, R&B, and gospel into a rich and diverse musical expression.
