★『ウイークエンド』(67)から12年間、商業映画から離れていたゴダールが『勝手に逃げろ/人生』(79)に続いて発表した商業映画復帰第2作!★劇中映画「パッション」で再現される名画は、レンブラントの「夜警」、ゴヤの「裸のマハ」、アングルの「小浴女」、ドラクロワの「十字軍のコンスタンチノープル入城」等。★撮影のラウール・クタールはゴダールのデビュー作『勝手にしやがれ』(59)以来、60年代のゴダール作品のほとんどを撮影した名カメラマン。
本作は、『ウイークエンド』(67)以来15年ぶりのコンビ復活。
本作の映像の美しさに対し、82年のカンヌ国際映画祭はフランス映画高等技術委員会賞が授与された。
★『勝手に逃げろ/人生』(79)の日本公開は95年なので、日本では本作がゴダールの商業映画復帰第1作となった。ミニシアター・ブーム初期の83年11月にオープンしたシネヴィヴァン六本木の最初の上映作品として、フランス映画社の配給により、注目のうちに公開された。★女性オールヌードがあるため最初の日本公開では一部が修正されたが、2002年のザジフィルムズ配給による再公開は〈無修正版〉だった(本ディスクも〈無修正版〉)。★1982年カンヌ国際映画祭フランス映画高等技術委員会賞(ラウール・クタール)受賞【映像特典】
