ショパンの旋律にのせて ルテステュが娼婦マルグリットの悲恋を気高く切なく踊るノイマイヤーの傑作!ヴェルディのオペラでも有名なデュマ・フィスの小説「椿姫」を元にジョン・ノイマイヤーが創作した傑作。2007年のアレッサンドラ・フェリの引退公演でも話題になったほか、09年2月にはハンブルク・バレエが来日公演で上演し、好評を博した演目である。公演が平日の神奈川で、残念な思いをしたファンも多かった。
高級娼婦マルグリットの悲恋を踊るのは、気品と美貌と技術を兼ね備えたアニエス・ルテステュ。マルグリットへの情熱的な恋を語る若いアルマンには躍進著しいステファン・ビュヨン。父ムッシュ・デュヴァルには往年のスターダンサー、ミカエル・ドナール。そして友人ガストン子爵に昨年エトワールに昇進したカール・パケット、プリュダンスにはドロテ・ジルベールと人気・実力ともに兼ね備えたダンサーが顔をそろえる。
舞台全編にわたって流れるショパンの旋律。切ないピアノの音にのせて踊られる青・白・黒の3つのパ・ド・ドゥが、娼婦と若者の出会いの戸惑いと愛の喜び、狂おしいまでの情熱を心情豊かに表現している。
劇中劇「マノン」の主人公に、ムッサンとマルティネズという豪華キャストもオペラ座ならではといえよう。振付: ジョン・ノイマイヤー
