Coal, which supported Japan's economic growth in the Showa era.
Hashima Island is an island located at the southwestern tip of Nagasaki Prefecture where that coal was mined.
At its peak, it had the highest population density in the world.
It was also a bustling maritime city with state-of-the-art structures built at the time.
Its landscape was likened to a battleship, and it came to be called "Battleship Island."
After its closure in 1974, landing was prohibited for a long time, but since 2009, landing has been permitted, and it has recently gained attention as a power spot.
In September 2008, it was listed on the Tentative List of World Heritage Sites as part of the "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining."
This papercraft is based on the current, ruined state of Battleship Island.
Collapsed buildings and structures are included as much as possible, recreating the current condition of Battleship Island, including the crowded structures and the exquisite landscape where nature and artificial elements merge.
*This is made for papercraft and differs in some parts from the actual island.
