"Panorama" is a series for classical music beginners, featuring famous classical masterpieces compiled into two-disc sets by composer, using sound sources from Deutsche Grammophon and Decca. With the exception of some works such as operas, the series generally includes all movements of a single work without fade-outs or excerpted movements. The performances are all highly recommended masterpieces. We are re-pressing 40 carefully selected titles.
This album features seven orchestral works by Rimsky-Korsakov, a master of orchestration. "Scheherazade" is Karajan's only recording, and its grand and brilliant performance remains as vibrant today as it was over 50 years ago. Maazel's "Capriccio Espagnol" and Markevitch's "The Golden Cockerel" are among the earliest stereo recordings. Ashkenazy's conducting of "Flight of the Bumblebee" and "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" uses original Decca masters.
