This is a hanging scroll for the Shingon sect's "Thirteen Buddhas of Shingon," which is displayed near the Buddhist altar for Obon, Ohigan, and memorial services.
It features the Buddhas who preside over the thirteen main memorial services from the first seven days after death to the thirty-third anniversary, along with Kobo Daishi, the founder of the Shingon sect.

Displaying it near the Buddhist altar or Obon shelf creates a solemn atmosphere and enhances the Obon season's feel.
While it can be displayed for all Buddhist events, it can also be used for daily display to pray for the safety of your family and the prosperity of your household.

[Meaning of the Thirteen Buddhas]
(1) Kobo Daishi: Founder of the Shingon sect.
(2) Jizo Bosatsu: Rescues the deceased during Yama King's judgment.
(3) Fudo Myoo: Severes attachments with the sword in his right hand and guides with the rope in his left.
(4) Seishi Bosatsu: As a companion to Amida, he leads the deceased.
(5) Kannon Bosatsu: As a companion to Amida, she scoops up the deceased onto a lotus pedestal.
(6) Amida Nyorai: As the lord of Gokuraku (Pure Land), he enlightens and guides the deceased to the correct teachings.
(7) Shaka Nyorai: Preaches the principle of impermanence and removes anxiety.
(8) Miroku Bosatsu: As the second Buddha, he preaches the Dharma.
(9) Dainichi Nyorai: As the fundamental lord of the universe, he watches over all sentient beings.
(10) Fugen Bosatsu: Preaches the practice that utilizes Monju's wisdom.
(11) Monju Bosatsu: Grants the wisdom that utilizes Shaka's teachings.
(12) Yakushi Nyorai: Grants a new body after the mourning period.
(13) Ashuku Nyorai: Grants firm resolve towards a new life.
(14) Kokuzo Bosatsu: Grants peace and helps one become "Fugen (a person of complete character)."

[Handling Precautions]
*When storing, gently brush off dust with a soft feather brush and be careful not to roll it up too tightly.
*To prevent mold and insect damage, take it out of the box twice a year, in spring and autumn on clear days, and air dry it in the shade.
*Avoid prolonged hanging as it may damage the scroll's original flexibility. Also, please avoid direct air conditioning, humid indoor environments, and direct sunlight.
