【About Obon】
Obon is a traditional event to welcome the spirits of ancestors and close family members who have passed away. It begins with the "Welcoming fire" to receive the spirits and ends with the "Sending fire" to send them off.
Within households, lanterns are arranged as welcoming and sending fires to honor the spirits of ancestors and deceased family members. Since it is the only time of the year when ancestors return, do your best to host them within your means.

Traditionally, white lanterns for the new Bonwere prepared by the family of the deceased, whiledecorated Bon lanterns (used annually)were generally prepared by relatives or acquaintances. However, due to recent changes in living environments, the way of decorating has shifted from Buddhist altar rooms to living rooms and other spaces, leading families of the deceased toprepare all lanterns and Bon supplies themselves.Meanwhile, relatives and acquaintances tend to prepare offerings (cash, incense, etc.).

The timing for starting to decorate also varies by household. While the main decoration period is from the 13th (first Bon day) to the 16th (final day), many start decorating gradually during the Bon month (July or August) to avoid rushing on the day itself.

Hasegawa responds to various requests regarding Bon offerings and ceremonies.
