- Unlike typical color enamels where colors are densely applied within outlines, Katsusaburō Kiln applies a technique inspired by watercolor painting, creating soft, faintly fragrant effects.
- Underglaze Blue (Sometsuke)
- Usually, cobalt pigment is painted first, then covered with glaze and fired.
- At Katsusaburō Kiln, the painting is done on top of the glaze, then fired.
- The melted glaze allows the cobalt pigment to blend softly, resulting in a very gentle finish.
- Both techniques are delicate and difficult, making each piece unique for the current era.
