The original HPF Crank is the No. 1 flat-side crank with excellent overall performance, packed with several innovative technologies inside its body. It boasts ultra-high pitch action response exceeding balsa wood and overcomes the biggest weakness of flat-side lures, castability.
However, its only "quirk" is that when it hits cover during a retrieve, the main weight can sometimes roll to the tail, resulting in a large, erratic flutter. Conversely, by mastering this, you can induce reaction bites with irregular escape actions and a fluttering ascent from the bottom to the surface, which was previously impossible with lipped hard lures.
But this characteristic movement can also be a negative factor depending on the bass's condition. In the Spec 2, the internal mold has been redesigned, and the weight has been fixed. This prevents large flutters when hitting cover, allowing for a stable retrieve that stays close to structures. It is also silent, making it effective for nervous bass that dislike rattle sounds.
Furthermore, by eliminating the U-shaped fixed weight, it is 10% lighter, improving both buoyancy and snagless performance. While the casting distance is not as good as the original, shifting the weight 8mm further back minimizes the loss. This lure attracts bass from a wide area and increases pick-up strikes at the very end due to its hard-to-detect action.
In summary, the Spec 2 is a "killer" flat-side crank that, in exchange for a slight decrease in casting distance compared to the original, entices pressured bass to bite with its tight and natural swimming action near cover.
