〔人物〕大正6年2月24日、福島県船引町の農業渡辺章三郎の長男に生まれる。昭和25年より、白石で新型のこけしを作っていたが、昭和26年より弥治郎の佐藤辰雄に師事して木地の技術を学んだ。旧型も作るようになった。
昭和27年に独立し、白石市越河五賀古屋敷で開業、主に新型、創作こけしを製作した。創作こけし作家として有名になった。全日本こけしコンクールで内閣総理大臣賞など数々の賞を受賞している。
時折伝統の型も作り、昭和40年代にはある程度の弥治郎系こけしを作った。
平成19年に没した、行年91歳。
〔作品〕佐藤辰雄の様式を継承したが、面描は新型の影響が残りやや甘い表情であった。
