**Muso Organic Coconut Sugar**
Muso Organic coconut sugar is handmade using traditional methods.
The raw material coconuts are grown on a farm located about a 3-hour drive from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The nectar, collected twice daily, is carefully boiled down over a wood-fired kiln until it is reduced to one-quarter of its original volume. Approximately 3.5 liters of nectar yields 1 kilogram of sugar. From the cultivation of coconut flowers to processing, the entire manufacturing process is done by hand using traditional methods.
It is truly 100% handmade sugar.
**Organic JAS Certified Product**
Coconut sugar is imported after undergoing inspections for color consistency through blending, moisture content, microorganisms, and metal contamination. The imported coconut sugar is then inspected again for foreign matter contamination at a domestic Organic JAS certified factory before being filled and becoming the final product.
**Muso Shoji**
Our company began its commitment to "organic" long before the term became widespread in Japan.
In 1988, we started importing organic soybeans certified by the Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) in the United States. The following year, in 1989, 11 products made based on traditional Japanese manufacturing methods handled by Muso Shoji, such as soy sauce, miso, brown rice vinegar, tea, and pickled plums, received the first-ever organic certification in Japan from OCIA, leading us to focus on overseas exports.
Furthermore, in 1990, we began selling OCIA-certified organic coffee, the first in Japan.
In 2000, the Organic JAS standard (Japanese Agricultural Standard for Organic Products) was enacted in Japan, and many companies are now involved in the organic business. However, we continue to operate our organic business with the same philosophy we had from the beginning.
