OO/Iede (CDEP)
The masterpiece 1st EP from Kyoto's up-and-coming indie rock band, Oo, is now available on CD! Oo is a four-piece indie rock band based in Kyoto, formed and active since early 2025.
While gradually gaining attention primarily within the Kyoto and Kansai indie scene, and with their demo CD-R, sold exclusively at select stores and at events in Tokyo, becoming a topic of conversation, they released their 1st EP "Iede" digitally on January 7, 2026 (Wednesday).
Their sound incorporates a wide range of influences, including 1970s-80s Japanese popular music (New Music, Rock, Folk, City Pop, etc.), the Tokyo indie scene of the 2010s and beyond such as Mitsume, Yogee New Waves, and betcover!!, as well as Fishmans and King Krule, while naturally integrating the sensibilities of current overseas indie music.
This work, "Iede," is a piece that deliberately avoids clear messages or narrative, valuing the natural emergence of scenery from words and sounds. The lyrics, which avoid being explanatory, leave room for the listener's imagination to form images.
Centered around a languid vocal and a three-dimensional soundscape, the diverse songs are constructed with flow and development in mind, incorporating the emotions and energy that change with each live performance, and the form the band finds most "interesting" is directly translated into the recording.
The EP as a whole evokes a sense of primal landscapes such as "countryside," "mountains," "rivers," "earth," and "weeds." Although no clear concept is presented, a common atmosphere emanates from all the songs, possessing a quiet yet definite outline. While capturing fragments of everyday life and personal feelings, it gently touches upon the listener's own memories and emotions.
