It is sometimes called "100th Day Celebration" because it is performed on the 100th day after the baby's birth.
Although there are various theories, it is said to have begun as the "Hashi-tsume no Gi" (ceremony of first eating with chopsticks), where food is offered to the baby around the 100th day after birth when deciduous teeth begin to emerge, with the wish that they "will never be troubled by food" and "will grow strong teeth and develop healthily."
