Description:This is a tatami mat top made from 100% Igusa cultivated with reduced pesticides in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture.Features include:- Superior durability and elasticity compared to ordinary Igusa, with the characteristic green color lasting longer.- Even after sun exposure and fading, it gradually changes to a beautiful amber color.- It has the ability to absorb nitrogen dioxide, which is a cause of air pollution, and also works excellently to regulate room humidity.
Simply laying this mat top can refresh your tatami room.Use it to refresh sun-damaged tatami or as a cover to prevent soiling of new tatami.
It uses domestically produced Igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture), which is longer than 130cm—classified as JAS1 (a high-grade class among tatami mats).Selected high-quality, thick, long Igusa is woven densely, making it durable and resilient, with a comfortable volume that feels good on the skin.Approximately 85cm of the 130cm length is used.
This product uses longer Igusa with less white at the border, making it a high-quality item.(Note: The white parts are not sunburned; they are the base and tip colors of the Igusa.)Longer Igusa is considered more luxurious. The tips of Igusa are reddish-brown, the base is white, and the middle is blue (green).Using more high-quality blue middle parts results in a stronger, more beautiful finish.
Igusa naturally sun-bleaches over time, but those with more blue middle parts tan evenly and attractively, developing a rich patina.
This product is woven with thread-drawn weaving, similar to tatami mat weaving.Compared to double-plain weave, it has more threads per weave, making it more durable. The surface is smooth, making it less likely to accumulate dust.
Recommended for those who want long-lasting use or seek high durability—thread-drawn weaving is ideal.
Made from domestically produced Igusa (from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto Prefecture).Japanese Igusa is thicker, with a rougher outer skin and finer fibers, providing elasticity and excellent durability.
Igusa has air purification and humidity regulation properties and is resistant to dirt.
The surface has been treated with "Hiba Essence" extracted from Hiba wood from Aomori Prefecture, using the manufacturer's proprietary technology.Hiba Essence contains Hinokiol, a natural substance with extremely high antibacterial properties.(Compared to untreated products, it offers enhanced antibacterial and deodorizing effects.)
Both sides of the product can be used, making it economical.
*Please note that as a natural material and handcrafted by artisans, there may be slight variations in shape and size from the specified dimensions. Thank you for your understanding.*
