[Nishiarai Daishi Main Hall]The official name is "Gochizan Henshoin Sojiji Temple." It was founded in 826 by Kobo Daishi. It belongs to the Buzan sect of Shingon Buddhism, and its head temple is Hasedera Temple in Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture. According to the "Nishiarai Sojiji Temple Inscription," Nishiarai Daishi suffered three fires in the Muromachi period, in 1444, 1503, and 1563. However, on all three occasions, the principal image of Kobo Daishi escaped unharmed. For this reason, Nishiarai Daishi is also known as "Daishi of Fire Prevention." The current main hall was built in 1972. During the Edo period, it was said, "Men go to Kawasaki Daishi, women go to Nishiarai Daishi."
