Main features
Enhanced 51-point AF system (viewfinder shooting)
Enhanced 51-point AF system from the D750. Uses the high processing power of the EXPEED 6 image processing engine and the advanced scene recognition system with a 180K pixel RGB sensor to obtain more detailed subject information, improving 3D-tracking performance. Additionally, by adopting AF algorithms from the flagship D5, it enhances subject detection performance in auto-area AF. Offers approximately 100% viewfinder coverage with real-time subject tracking, and an optical system with a glass pentaprism for improved optical viewfinder. The viewfinder is easier to see, allowing for more accurate focus even in low light or when subjects with low contrast move quickly and irregularly.
First Nikon single-lens reflex camera to adopt 273-point hybrid AF with on-surface phase detection AF (live view shooting)
First Nikon digital single-lens reflex camera to adopt on-surface phase detection AF, dramatically improving AF performance during live view shooting. The hybrid AF system covers approximately 90% of the imaging area horizontally and vertically with 273 focus points, enabling innovative live view photography.
For still image shooting in FX format with single-point AF.
Native sensitivity ISO 51200, high resolution with noise reduction at high sensitivity
Uses Nikon FX format backside-illuminated CMOS sensor optimized for high image quality and high sensitivity. Works in conjunction with the EXPEED 6 image processing engine to deliver excellent high sensitivity performance from ISO 100 to 51200.
Can reduce sensitivity to ISO 50 equivalent and increase to ISO 204800 equivalent.
Full pixel readout 4K UHD video
FX-based video format, capable of recording 4K UHD/30p video in full-frame. Allows for wide-angle and expressive shooting with wide-angle or fisheye lenses. Utilizes full pixel readout for rich image information, enabling high-quality video expression.
Low power consumption design capable of approximately 2,260 shots per charge
With low power consumption design and using the Li-ion rechargeable battery EN-EL15b, it can shoot up to approximately 2,260 shots per charge. Suitable for interval timer shooting and timelapse videos even when shooting over 1,000 frames.
Complies with CIPA standards.
Enhanced focus indication with higher accuracy "Focus Aid"
In manual focus mode, indicates focus with a lit point ( ) inside the viewfinder and on the image monitor to notify when focus is achieved. Focus detection accuracy has been improved. Even in situations where it is difficult to judge with the viewfinder image or live view video, you can confirm focus with the focus point display for more precise focusing.
Automatic AF microadjustment registered at both ends of zoom lenses for higher accuracy
Allows precise autofocus microadjustment for each lens model, registering the adjustment values automatically. For zoom lenses, in the D780, you can register microadjustment values obtained at both the wide and telephoto ends. Using AF microadjustment values at both ends of the zoom improves AF accuracy across the entire zoom range. Can be registered separately for viewfinder shooting, live view, and still/video recording.
To enable the set AF microadjustment during shooting, set "AF Microadjustment" in the setup menu to "On".
Supports bright and dark scenes, shutter speed from 1/8000 to 900 seconds
Shutter speed can be set from 1/8000 seconds to a maximum of 900 seconds. Even in bright daylight, setting to 1/8000 seconds allows capturing impressive portraits with large aperture lenses. To set longer than 30 seconds, in M mode, you can configure the maximum exposure time up to 900 seconds (15 minutes) via the custom menu, useful for long exposure photography of landscapes or stars. Can be set in both viewfinder and live view modes.
Capture the moment with high-speed continuous shooting at approximately 7 frames per second
The newly installed mirror balancer thoroughly suppresses viewfinder image shake. You can confirm the subject in real-time through the optical viewfinder and enjoy comfortable high-speed continuous shooting at about 7 fps. Additionally, with a larger buffer memory, it can shoot up to approximately 68 frames in 14-bit lossless compressed RAW, ensuring you don't miss the shutter chance.
When AF mode is AF-C, shooting mode is S or M, and shutter speed is 1/250 seconds or faster.
Using a SanDisk 64GB SDSDXPK-064G-JNJIP SD UHS-II card, with ISO 100 and EN-EL15b, for reference.
