About Nichiren ShoninHe was a monk in the mid-Kamakura period and the founder of the Nichiren and Hokke sects. He left the priesthood under the tutelage of Dozenbo of Kiyosumi-ji Temple, a Tendai temple, and later studied at various temples in Kyoto and its surrounding provinces, including Mt. Hiei.He returned to Kiyosumi-ji Temple and advocated for faith in the Lotus Sutra, but conflicts arose with nembutsu practitioners, leading him to travel to Kamakura.He authored the "Rissho Ankoku Ron" (On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land), engaged in unique religious activities, and was exiled to Izu and Sado. He was later pardoned and lived in seclusion at Mt. Minobu.He passed away in the 5th year of Koan (1282) at the age of 61.
