Hikashu and MASSA composer and percussionist Masaharu Sato handled the music. br Ryuhei Matsuda participated as the first narrator, and from April 2016, NHK aired a four-part series, creating a new presence of music that became a topic of conversation, the NHK Special 'The Last Frontier of the Great Amazon.' br The original soundtrack features not only Sato but also Toyo Hosoi, keyboardist of Sentimental City Romance, Shibusashirazu, and many other talented artists, as well as a highly active horn player and soloist, Keisuke Ota; the leader of Altered States; music director of the theatrical troupe Ishinha; and cellists active as soloists such as Ouda Shike, leading Shike Stinkus, and others. The first recording session involved Sato bringing over 100 instruments from various countries, including large, medium, and small, into the studio and setting them up. His cheerful setup, like a toy box of instruments, was evident from the start. Sato listened to various stories about the Amazon from video directors and spontaneously expressed the images that came to mind through improvisation, recording continuously. This was an unusual style of recording for creating music for visuals. From the second recording onward, uniquely talented members participated. In a free and rich atmosphere, they recorded fresh sounds as if even the breath of the recording members could be heard. From these recordings, 18 carefully selected tracks are included out of 34 songs. Responding to enthusiastic fan requests, the songs that couldn't fit on the CD are now available in high-resolution as 'The Last Frontier of the Great Amazon Original Soundtrack Vol.2.'

About the artist

Masaharu Sato (composer, percussionist) br An artist who uses various percussion instruments and voice to pursue 'sounds of the Earth' and 'sounds of humans.' br In his teens, he formed Bikyo Ran, and in his twenties, he formed Adi. He has collaborated with and participated in works with many artists including Kiyoshiro Imawano, Yosui Inoue, Joe Hisaishi, Tokiko Kato, Carmen Maki, The Chieftains, and others. He has performed at numerous domestic and international music festivals such as Fuji Rock Festival, and his energetic expression, manipulating percussion and voice freely, has received very high praise worldwide. As a composer, he has provided music for various artists, commercials, and films, including the performance music for the Japanese rhythmic gymnastics team at the Sydney Olympics and the soundtrack for 'Ki to Hone Special (DVD).' In June 2016, he co-produced the album 'Mirai' by Ryo Kagawa, his first studio recording in 25 years, and is active as a music producer. To share the wonder of music with many people, he hosts workshops and events, and regularly appears on Shizuoka FM's 'Music Cooperative.' He leads numerous bands including MASSA (Toyo Hosoi, Keisuke Ota), Hari Usagi (Yuki Sagi), and others, and also participates in many bands such as Hikashu, Aya, Matarahi! All-Stars, and more.
