■The Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert held every January 1. It is one of the most famous classical music events, broadcast via TV and radio to over 90 countries worldwide, watched by over 50 million people, originating from the golden Musikverein in Vienna. This concert, with a history of over 75 years since 1939, features waltzes and polkas by the Strauss family, symbols of Vienna’s musical heritage, and tickets are said to be the most difficult to obtain worldwide.
■In 2023, Franz Welser-Möst, a true Austrian, appeared for the first time in 10 years since 2011 and 2013. Welser-Möst is one of the conductors most closely associated with the Vienna Philharmonic, and with his great-grandfather having run a café where the Strauss family performed, Strauss is a core part of his repertoire.
■Of the 15 scheduled pieces, 14 are performed for the first time at the New Year’s Concert, demonstrating the Vienna Philharmonic’s spirit. Of course, the traditional encores "Beautiful Blue Danube" and "Radetzky March" are also scheduled.
