Nekochaya [Suruga] is a gift set featuring three types of tea from Shizuoka Prefecture: Honcha, Kawanecha, and Kakegawa-cha, all renowned regional brands. Each tea has been processed with steaming methods that highlight its unique characteristics, allowing you to enjoy the differences in taste and aroma. Please savor these distinctive teas, which have fully absorbed the blessings of Shizuoka's nature.
1. Kakegawa-cha
Kakegawa-cha is produced in a region blessed with abundant water and fertile soil in the central-western part of Shizuoka Prefecture. It is characterized by its rich, mellow sweetness.[Fukashi (Deep Steaming)]: Tea leaves are steamed for approximately 1 to 3 minutes during the manufacturing process. This results in less bitterness and a richer sweetness and body.
2. Kawanecha
Kawanecha is produced in the mountainous region along the upper reaches of the Oi River in central Shizuoka Prefecture. It is characterized by its well-balanced flavor, offering a pleasant bitterness and astringency.[Chūmushi (Medium Steaming)]: Tea leaves are steamed for approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute during the manufacturing process. This results in a refreshing taste with moderate astringency.
3. Honcha
Honcha has the longest history among Shizuoka's tea-producing regions. It is produced in the upper reaches of the Abe and Warashina Rivers in central Shizuoka Prefecture and is characterized by its unique aroma and refreshing taste, typical of mountainous regions.[Asamushi (Light Steaming)]: Tea leaves are steamed for approximately 10 to 30 seconds during the manufacturing process. This preserves the tea's natural aroma, resulting in a smooth finish.
The packaging is inspired by tea houses of the Edo period. Each of the three bags has an independent design, but when placed side-by-side, they form a single complete picture.
Edo is the former name of Tokyo and was the capital of Japan from 1603 to 1868. This period, known as the Edo period, saw peace, economic growth, and cultural prosperity. Edo became a major city and was famous for its unique urban culture, including arts such as Kabuki and Ukiyo-e.
