"Kokeshi dolls" are traditional wooden dolls from the Tohoku region of Japan.
They are mainly categorized into three types:
* **Traditional Kokeshi:** A traditional craft that has continued for over 160 years. There are 12 lineages, each named after its place of origin. Kokeshi craftsmen, after several years of training under a master, can create kokeshi of their affiliated lineage.
* **New Style Kokeshi:** These began to be made in the 1950s as souvenirs from hot spring resorts and other tourist destinations. There are many designs, featuring motifs such as names of tourist spots, landscapes, and local specialties.
* **Creative Kokeshi:** There are no specific rules or definitions, allowing for a wide variety of designs.

"Traditional Kokeshi," in particular, were children's toys before the advent of manufactured goods. Because kokeshi were played with by children as friends for pretend play, hugging, and carrying on their backs, they were made with a simple shape of only a head and body to be durable and not easily broken.
These are historical dolls that have lived alongside children, who expanded their imaginations within their simple forms.

Care Instructions
* Kokeshi faces and patterns are painted with water-based dyes and are therefore very sensitive to water. To prevent color fading, please wipe with a dry cloth when cleaning.
* The kokeshi body is made of wood. Please enjoy your kokeshi away from sudden drying, direct sunlight, or heating appliances such as air conditioners. Also, please be aware that mold may grow in very humid environments.
